5-Star CBB Prospect Dylan Mingo to Miss UNC Visit After Flight Was Canceled
Top college basketball recruit Dylan Mingo was forced to miss a planned visit to North Carolina on Friday after his flight was canceled, according to Rivals' Joe Tipton.
Mingo is a 5-star prospect who is listed as the No. 2 combo guard and No. 5 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.
He's already visited Alabama, Baylor, Miami, Penn State, UConn and Washington.
Mingo was also scheduled to visit NC State, but bad weather ultimately prevented him from making the trip (via SI.com's Jordon Lawrenz).
He initially received an offer from North Carolina on May 29, later revealing that he was constantly talking with Tar Heels head coach Hubert Davis.
"Hubert Davis, he reaches out a lot," Mingo told Rivals' Jamie Shaw (h/t Tipton). "He pretty much just talks about how this year they should be really good, how they're going to get things back on a UNC level. He tells me how he could see me coming in there playing as a freshman."
Mingo is able to use his size at 6'5" with a wingspan over 6'10" to disrupt passing lanes and crash the glass. He averaged 13.3 points per game during the 2024-25 EYBL Scholastic Tournament for Long Island Lutheran, helping his team reach the championship game.
While Long Island Lutheran ultimately lost the title game, Mingo scored 17 points and dished out four assists while shooting 7-of-12 from the field.
As for the current Tar Heels, they've opened the 2025-26 season with a 1-0 record as they look to secure their third consecutive March Madness appearance.
