Shaka Smart Says He'll Find Giannis a Spot on Marquette After NCAA Eligibility Joke

On Wednesday, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo openly wondered whether he could hypothetically have collegiate eligibility and play for Marquette University, which is located in his NBA hometown.

On Thursday, Marquette men's basketball head coach Shaka Smart was asked about Antetokounmpo's post and provided his answer with a big smile.

Of course, Antetokounmpo is ineligible for the NCAA by virtue of signing a contract and being paid as a professional in the NBA. It'd be fun to imagine what Antetokounmpo could do in college, though. Marquette did the same.

Antetokounmpo is averaging 32.3 points, 12.6 rebounds and 6.3 assists in his 13th NBA season. He's a nine-time All-Star and nine-time All-NBA player who also won a pair of NBA MVP awards and led the Bucks to the 2020-21 NBA title.

Smart noted in his response that one of his assistants thinks Marquette would win every game with Antetokounmpo aboard. That's very possible considering that Antetokounmpo has undoubtedly been one of the NBA's elite talents for a decade.

In reality, Marquette is doing quite well so far as is, winning its first two games by wide margins against Albany (80-53) and Southern (100-82). A date against Indiana in Chicago is up next on Sunday.
