Giannis Jokes About NCAA Eligibility, Says He Wants to Play for Marquette CBB

Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo expressed his curiosity about suiting up for a different Wisconsin basketball team on social media.

Antetokounmpo, who played in Greece before his NBA career, jokingly asked if he had any NCAA eligibility in order to play for Marquette ahead of the Golden Eagles' matchup with Southern on Wednesday night.

The Marquette men's basketball program was quick to respond to Antetokounmpo, sharing a jersey swap photo of the Bucks star in a Golden Eagles uniform:

While the 30-year-old forward leaving the Bucks to play at Marquette isn't realistic, it's safe to assume that he'd be unstoppable at the college level considering NBA defenses continue to have trouble slowing him down.

Antetokounmpo is off to a hot start to the 2025-26 season, averaging 32.3 points and 12.6 rebounds to go along with 6.3 assists per game. The two-time MVP is also shooting 67.7 percent from the field and 6-of-10 from behind the arc.

He's helped the Bucks open the year with a 5-3 record as they look to clinch a 10th consecutive playoff appearance, ranking No. 8 in the league with a 117.2 offensive rating (via NBA.com).

As for Marquette, head coach Shaka Smart's squad is also searching for a fifth straight NCAA Tournament berth after wrapping up a 23-11 finish last season.

The Golden Eagles currently sit at 1-0 after securing an 80-53 win over Albany on Monday and will attempt to remain perfect to begin their 2025-26 campaign.

Tip-off against Southern on Wednesday is at 8 p.m. ET.
