NFL Draft 2026 Scouting Report for Oregon DL A'Mauri Washington

Matt HolderNov 9, 2025

A'Mauri Washington has been one of the biggest risers in the 2026 NFL draft class this fall as he's lived in opponents' backfields this season.

Listed at 6'3", 330 pounds, he has plenty of strength and power to be a good run defender, but what separates Washington is the impressive quickness and athleticism he's shown for his size. The Oregon product was listed as the fourth-best athlete on Bruce Feldman's list this summer.

Washington arrived to the Ducks program as a 4-star recruit in the 2023 class and played sparingly as a true freshman.

In year two, he was behind Derrick Harmon (Steelers' first-round pick), Jordan Burch (Cardinals' third-round pick) and Jamaree Caldwell (Chargers' third-round pick). The Detroit, Michigan native rotated behind those three and had just 10 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and two passes defended in that season.

However, 2025 has been his breakout campaign.

Matt Holder has been a part of B/R's Scouting Department for four seasons. He also writes about the Las Vegas Raiders and NFL draft for SB Nation's Silver and Black Pride, and co-hosts a YouTube Channel, Tape Don't Lie, providing film breakdowns and more draft prospect analysis.

Where He Wins

1 of 4
Oklahoma St Oregon Football

- Washington has good size and appears to have decent arm length.

- Impressive get-off and quick off the ball to get penetration, especially when slanting.

- Very good strength at the point of attack to gain control of one-on-one blocks, stand up offensive linemen and hold his gap.

- Has also shown the quickness and agility to beat linemen across their faces and make the tackle in the adjacent gap, effectively taking away two rushing lanes.

- Little to no issues escaping blocks from offensive linemen to make tackles near the line of scrimmage.

- Solid power as a pass-rusher to occasionally collapse the pocket with a bull rush when he keeps his pads down.

- Athletic ability gives him potential to grow as a pass-rusher if his use of hands improves.

- Gets his hands up as a pass-rusher to bat passes at the line of scrimmage.

- Alignment and scheme versatility, he can play anywhere from a 4i-technique to 1-technique/shade nose tackle.

Areas of Improvement

2 of 4
Oklahoma State v Oregon

- Washington has a tendency to play with high pad level, causing him to get pushed out of his gap against combo blocks/double teams.

- Has a habit of hopping out of his stance rather than taking short, powerful steps.

- Block recognition against the run is lacking, leading to him getting reached, scooped or caught off guard by double-teams.

- Hand placement is a little wide when taking on blocks against the run, exposing his chest against offensive linemen who play with tight hands.

- Use of hands as a pass-rusher is a big work in progress; he's often late and inaccurate with his hands or chops when starting pass-rush moves, allowing offensive linemen to make the first significant contact frequently.

- Also doesn't work the offensive lineman's hands after contact.

- Doesn't have a pass-rush move that he can win consistently with right now, nor does he work counter moves if his initial move isn't effective.
