Kevin Durant Responds To Troll Clowning Him for How Many Pushups He's Done in Life

Paul KasabianNov 2, 2025

Houston Rockets forward Kevin Durant responded to an X user who doesn't believe his claim that his mother, Wanda Durant, made him do 200 push-ups at the age of eight.

The push-up comment was in reference to a recent interview Durant had with Bobbi Althoff on "Not This Again" (h/t Chaitanya Dadhwal of Fadeaway World).

"Yes, I was combative as a kid cause she raised me rough. Like I told her, I wanted to be in the NBA. So she just put it in overdrive, just as if I had to do 100 push-ups, she would come out of nowhere, 'give me 200 push-ups.' Yeah, s--t like that would just irritate me over time."

He added: "And then I was just outspoken and said anything as a kid, and that's why I would get slapped out of nowhere, and then I'd talk too much in class, and she'd come to school, slap the s--t out of me in front of the class. Like s--t like that, like she would just piss me off with."

When Durant isn't dominating on the basketball court, he can sometimes be found on X responding to a host of people who may or may not have nice things to say about him. He spoke about why he does that in the Netflix series, "Starting 5," saying it's like his "coffee in the morning."

"People come in here, never picked up a basketball," Durant said. "Never ran full speed in their life. Never got their heart rate up before. And they tell you how to approach the game."

He also said: "When I can't get that dopamine hit from playing, I'm definitely getting that from Twitter."

Durant is a 15-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA player, four-time scoring champion, four-time Olympic gold medalist, two-time NBA champion and one-time MVP. He doesn't need to respond to anyone about his career and how he plays, but he does anyway sometimes when he's free. KD seems to get enjoyment out of it, though, and maybe the people who criticize him do as well.

In an odd way, maybe everyone is getting what they want out of the interactions, even though it may not seem so on the surface.

At any rate, Durant is having another good season at age 37, averaging 27.2 points and 5.4 rebounds in his first year for the Rockets.
