Pistons Superfan Tom Hur Goes Viral After Documenting 6,500 Mile Trip to Detroit
Detroit Pistons fan Tom Hur documented his 6,500-mile trip from Seoul, South Korea to watch his favorite team play in several viral posts on social media.
Hur arrived in Detroit on Oct. 24, exploring the city and attending a Detroit Red Wings game prior to the Pistons' home opener on Sunday. He also received some Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers gear.
Hur, who previously visited Detroit in 2023 to watch the Pistons, explained how they became his favorite basketball team.
"My favorite player back then was Tracy McGrady, and yeah, he's not exactly a Pistons legend, but in 2010, he signed a one-year contract with the Pistons, and I was, like, so my favorite player is signing with my favorite team at the time, so I was, like, this is going to be my team," Hur said, per Peter Maxwell of WXYZ Detroit. "So it all started from there."
Hur linked up with several current and former Pistons players during his trip including Cade Cunningham, Isaiah Stewart and Richard Hamilton.
He also met with Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon and took a tour of the team's facilities.
The Pistons went 2-1 in the three games Hur was able to attend at Little Caesars Arena during his trip, with wins over the Boston Celtics and Orlando Magic.
