Dolphins Owner Reportedly Not 'In Any Rush to Fire McDaniel' Despite 'Disappointment'

Adam WellsOct 30, 2025

Despite a 2-6 start to the season, Mike McDaniel is reportedly not in immediate danger of losing his job as head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

Per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is not "in any rush to fire McDaniel" despite his "disappointment" with how things are going because he is a "a believer in the process" and will "remain tolerant" as long it looks like the team is making clear improvements.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted prior to Week 3 that Ross "does not want to fire" the head coach, but things could change based on factors like fan interest and the level of engagement from players on the field.

Even with their 2-6 record, the Dolphins have been competitive in most games. Three of their six losses are by a combined 11 points. They do have some lowlights on their resume, specifically a 31-6 loss to the Cleveland Browns in Week 7.

After a 27-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers in Week 5, McDaniel said that Ross "was really frustrated, just like I was" in their traditional postgame meeting to discuss the games.

Miami did rebound from that Browns' loss with its best performance of the season in a 34-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 26.

McDaniel is just 14 months removed from signing a contract extension with the Dolphins that runs through the 2028 season. He reportedly is still owed $18 million after this season.

After starting his tenure in Miami with a 20-14 record and two playoff appearances in each of his first two seasons, McDaniel is 10-15 since the 2024 campaign. Their 2-6 mark is tied with the Browns for the third-worst in the AFC entering Week 9.

Miami is playing on a short week when it hosts the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night. Lamar Jackson is expected to return for the Ravens after missing the last three games due to a hamstring injury.

The last time the Dolphins and Ravens played was Week 17 of the 2023 season. Baltimore won 56-19, tied for the third-most points allowed in a game by Miami.
