Warriors' Draymond Green Says 'I Still Think I'm the Best' Defender in NBA in Year 14

Draymond Green is still confident that he's the top defensive player in the NBA as he begins his 14th season with the Golden State Warriors.

"I feel like defensively right now, I can see everything in slow motion and way before it happens," Green said on The Draymond Green Show. "It's such a beautiful space to be in. I feel like it's all starting to come together for me and everything is starting to hit its peak."

"I still think I'm the best," he added.

Green knows what it takes to be the top defender in the NBA, securing Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2017. He also has nine All-Defensive selections under his belt, receiving All-Defensive First Team recognition last season.

Green finished No. 3 in Defensive Player of the year voting during his 2024-25 campaign as well, averaging 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks per game while anchoring the defense of a Warriors squad that owned the league's No. 1 defensive rating after the All-Star break (via NBA.com).

The 35-year-old could challenge for the award once again this season, although San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama appears to have an early edge in the race. Wembanyama has already amassed a league-leading 19 blocks to go along with six steals in just four games this year.

Still, Green's belief in his defensive acumen is admirable as he attempts to help Golden State return to the playoffs.
