Alex Rodriguez Recalls Giving Patrick Mahomes Advice to Play Baseball Over Football
Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes is arguably the greatest quarterback of his generation, but he wouldn't have reached that level if he had followed the advice of a former MLB start.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, former MLB star Alex Rodriguez recounted a story about how he advised a 10-year-old Mahomes to play baseball rather than football while the youngster spent a month accompanying his dad to spring training with the Texas Rangers.
"The last day, I said, 'I'm gonna give you some good advice here, listen up,'" Rodriguez recalled (1:30 mark). "And his eyes got really wide, and I lowered my voice and I said, 'I know you like baseball, and I know you like football, but trust me when I say this: baseball is where the money is.' I said, 'Football is just for fun, but you're gonna make your money in baseball like your dad and I.' And I'm glad he didn't take my advice."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Mahomes was a three-sport athlete at Whitehouse High School in Texas between football, baseball and basketball, and he went on to play both football and baseball at Texas Tech before focusing solely on football during his junior year.
The decision paid off, as Mahomes is now a three-time Super Bowl champion and a two-time NFL MVP. While he could've excelled on the mound as a pitcher, it's clear that he made the right choice.
Mahomes will be trying to lead the Chiefs (4-3) to their third straight win when they meet the Washington Commanders (3-4) on Monday Night Football.
