Steelers Reportedly Would 'Love' Aaron Rodgers to Return for 2026 NFL Season

Timothy RappOct 25, 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers don't want Aaron Rodgers to be a one-year cameo.

According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, "Pittsburgh has Rodgers on a one-year deal, but the Steelers would love to have him back next season."

The 41-year-old Rodgers has been solid in his first season for the Steelers, throwing for 1,270 yards, 14 touchdowns and five sacks, completing 68.6 percent of his passes and taking nine sacks. The Steelers are 4-2 in his starts, and to this point he's been an upgrade over last year's quarterback options, Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.

It's unclear whether Rodgers will continue to play after the 2025 season—he told reporters he's "pretty sure" this season will be his last—but once he does choose to retire he'll do so ceremoniously with the Green Bay Packers.

"I was there for 18 years," he said. "Regardless of when I hang it up, that's the bulk of my career. I'll retire a Packer and see what happens after that. I've got a lot of love for the organization [and] my time there. They asked this week is it a revenge game or whatever. What do I got to be avenging here? They made me a ton of money. I grew up there, spent some of the best years of my life there. I've got nothing but love for the organization."

He'll have the chance to face his former team on Sunday night, with the 4-1-1 Packers traveling to Pittsburgh for a much-anticipated showdown.

As for the Steelers, the team may be holding out hope for one more season from Rodgers in 2026, but it's probably time to start developing a number of contingency plans.
