Earlier in the game, Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho hit a two-run homer to tie the game at two in the fourth inning.
Toronto amassed 14 hits, with Kirk leading the way with three. He also scored three runs. Four other Blue Jays had two hits, including Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who's now hitting .447 with a 1.412 OPS alongside six home runs and 12 RBI in the playoffs.
Three-time MVP Shohei Ohtani provided the Dodgers' biggest blast with a two-run homer in the seventh, although the damage had already been done at that point.
Ultimately, it was a sensational effort from the Blue Jays, especially against Dodgers ace Blake Snell, who was knocked out of the game after five-plus innings and 100 pitches. Snell had a 3-0 record, 0.86 ERA and 28:5 K/BB ratio in the playoffs leading into Friday, but the Blue Jays held the upper hand.
The southpaw allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out four as the Blue Jays authored long at-bats by continuously hitting foul balls. Toronto's efforts ultimately paid off as the team searches for its first World Series championship since 1993.
Fans and analysts were understandably impressed with the Blue Jays' efforts.
Game 2 will take place in Toronto on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET.
