This season marks the third iteration of the annual in-season tournament. The format has largely remained the same since its inception during the 2023-24 campaign, but there were some changes to the schedule for this year.
As part of Prime Video's media deal with the NBA, the streaming service received rights to air 10 Cup games that will be broadcast as part of its doubleheader coverage on Friday nights with what the league is dubbing "Cup Nights."
In previous years, NBA Cup games were split evenly between Tuesdays and Fridays. As a result of the change in scheduling, the league is starting the tournament earlier in the season than it in the past.
For instance, last year's tournament began on Nov. 12 and wrapped up with the championship game on Dec. 17. This year's event will run two weeks longer with the earlier start date before wrapping up on Dec. 16 in Las Vegas.
The total number of games in the NBA Cup remains the same, with teams in each group playing each other once. Group winners and one wild-card team from each conference will advance to the knockout stage.
Wild cards are the teams with the best record after the group winners. Any ties are broken starting with head-to-head record, followed by point differential.
Group play concludes on Nov. 28, with the quarterfinal round taking place on Dec. 9 and 10.
The Milwaukee Bucks are the defending champions, defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2024 final thanks to Giannis Antetokounmpo's triple-double.
