Steph Curry Praises Aaron Gordon's 'Ridiculous' 50-Point Game in Loss to Warriors
Even though Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors won a thrilling game over the Denver Nuggets, the two-time NBA MVP couldn't help but marvel at Aaron Gordon's 50-point effort.
Curry told reporters after the Warriors' 137-131 overtime victory that Gordon was "ridiculous" in the game.
"Whatever he did this summer, it worked," added Curry.
Curry himself scored 42 points, including 28 in the second half and the game-tying three with 21 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime.
The efficiency from Gordon was incredible, with his career-high 50 points coming on 17-of-21 shooting from the field. He also made 10 of his 11 attempts from three-point range.
Gordon became just the sixth player in NBA history to score at least 50 points in a season opener. The others who accomplished the feat were Michael Jordan (twice), Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.
The three-point shooting is the most surprising development in Gordon's game. He shot 32.3 percent from behind the arc over his first 10 seasons, including 29.0 percent during the 2023-24 campaign.
Last season saw Gordon shoot a career-high 43.6 percent from three on 3.4 attempts per game.
Gordon probably won't keep up his current pace 90.9 percent for the entire 2025-26 season, but his growth as a shooter paired with Nikola Jokić's all-around dominance is a big reason the Nuggets are once again regarded as a Finals contender in the Western Conference.
