Numerous G-League (or D-League, as it was once known) players have been called up to the NBA and excelled.
Examples include ex-Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside, a two-time blocks champion who averaged 14.3 points, 12.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks from 2014-15 to 2019-20. Danny Green, a standout 3-and-D player, won three NBA championships and shot 40.0 percent from three-point range over 15 pro seasons. Robert Covington played 11 NBA seasons and made the 2017-18 All-Defensive First Team.
More recently, Gary Payton II is enjoying a 10-year NBA career, which includes a 2021-22 championship with the Golden State Warriors. Payton's in his second stint with the Warriors right now.
Scotty Pippen Jr. has impressed in two seasons for the Memphis Grizzlies, especially when called to start in place of superstar Ja Morant due to injury. Over 2023-24 and 2024-25, Pippen averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
