What is Ja Morant's Injury Status After Exiting Grizzlies vs. Cavaliers?

Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday's contest against the Cleveland Cavaliers with calf soreness, the team announced.

Morant exited the game in the first quarter after playing just six minutes. He finished with seven points, two assists and one rebound.

The 26-year-old has been no stranger to injuries early on this season. He suffered a sprained left ankle during an Oct. 5 practice and was listed as week-to-week. However, he was medically cleared to play his team's season opener against the New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 22.

Morant is in his seventh NBA season, making a pair of All-Star teams and a pair of All-NBA Second Teams. His accolades include the Rookie of the Year award and the Most Improved Player award, won in 2021-22.

Injuries have unfortunately hindered Morant in the past, including 2023-24 (season-ending labral tear in right shoulder) and 2024-25 (hip subluxation and pelvic muscle strains, a lingering Grade 1 AC joint sprain and a hip contusion).

Morant is an invaluable member of the Grizzlies, who depend more on his now after trading Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic. In addition, Memphis has been shorthanded numerous years of late, including 2025-26, to the point where it qualified for the Disabled Player Exception before the season began.

If Morant misses any time moving forward, the Grizzlies can turn to Cam Spencer and perhaps Cedric Coward moving forward as Javon Small, Ty Jerome and Scotty Pippen Jr. are all sidelined with injuries.
