Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb to Play vs. Commanders After Missing 3 Games With Ankle Injury

Paul KasabianOct 17, 2025

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who has been out since suffering a high ankle sprain against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 21, practiced in full on Friday and is expected to play Sunday at home against the Washington Commanders.

Lamb practiced in a limited fashion on Wednesday and Thursday in preparation for his return.

The four-time Pro Bowler caught 16 passes for 222 yards in his first two games. He suffered the injury early in Dallas' third game and has since missed three straight contests overall.

The six-year veteran entered 2025 amassing three straight seasons of 101 or more catches and four consecutive campaigns of 1,102 or more yards.

Lamb's return is a welcome sight for the 2-3-1 Cowboys, who sorely need a win on Sunday against the NFC East rival Commanders. The door to the NFC East title is wide open with the Philadelphia Eagles' offense looking inconsistent at best all year and the defense being spotty at times as well. Philadelphia is now 4-2 after a two-game losing streak, and five of its next seven games are against teams with winning records.

A Cowboy win jumps them over the 3-3 Commanders, and an Eagle loss to the Minnesota Vikings would put Dallas just a half-game back of Philadelphia for the division.

An offense that's already fared incredibly well (29.7 points per game, third in the NFL) now gets a superstar back who could vault Dallas into the NFL's best offense with him aboard.

That's in part because quarterback Dak Prescott, running back Javonte Williams and wide receiver George Pickens have all done incredibly well. Pickens has been a superstar in Lamb's absence, catching 32 passes for 525 yards and an NFL-high six touchdowns. The Pickens-Lamb combo is arguably the NFL's top wideout duo, one that will be quite difficult for teams to stop.

The issue, of course, is that the defense, minus the traded Micah Parsons, is being gashed for 30.7 points per game. Dallas has been forced to play in shootouts, and that may very well be the case all year.

Having Lamb back certainly helps the offense's cause, though, as Dallas looks to get back to .500. Kickoff in AT&T Stadium is set for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
