Pistons' Jaden Ivey Out At Least 4 Weeks After Surgery on Knee Injury

Zach BacharOct 16, 2025

The Detroit Pistons will be without a key backcourt piece to start the 2025-26 season.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Pistons guard Jaden Ivey underwent arthroscopic surgery to "relieve right knee discomfort" on Thursday and will be reevaluated in four weeks.

The procedure was unrelated to a fibula issue that caused Ivey to miss time during the 2024-25 season, per the team's official announcement.

Ivey previously underwent surgery to repair a broken fibula in his left leg on Jan. 2 and he was subsequently sidelined for the remainder of the regular season as well as Detroit's first-round playoff matchup with the New York Knicks.

The 23-year-old only appeared in one preseason game ahead of his 2025-26 campaign, playing just 14 minutes during a 128-112 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.

Ivey's recent health issues are troubling, especially after he didn't experience many problems with availability to open his career. He appeared in 151 of a possible 164 regular-season contests over his first two years in the association.

The Pistons selected Ivey with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft.

He immediately stood out as a rookie with his athletic finishing ability, averaging 16.3 points and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the field. He was named to the All-Rookie Second Team and finished No. 6 in Rookie of the Year voting.

While Ivey's production dipped slightly during the 2023-24 season as Cade Cunningham stepped into a larger offensive role for the Pistons, he was in the midst of a breakout 2024-25 campaign prior to suffering a broken fibula.

Ivey averaged 17.6 points per game on 46.0/40.9/73.3 shooting splits in 30 appearances before the injury.

While his exact return date from his latest surgery is unknown, a potential four-week absence would force him to miss Detroit's first 12 games of the regular season before returning for a matchup with the Philadelphia 76ers on Nov. 14.
