Doric SamOct 16, 2025

Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant famously blocked a deal from last season's trade deadline that would've sent him from the Phoenix Suns to the Golden State Warriors.

During an episode of the new season of Netflix's Starting 5, Durant's reaction to learning about the trade idea was revealed.

"No f--king way they tryna do this s--t behind my back," Durant said.

Durant played for the Warriors from 2016 to 2019 and won back-to-back NBA titles with three straight NBA Finals appearances, but he had no interest in returning to Golden State.

Earlier this offseason, the 37-year-old confirmed that he blocked a trade between the Suns and Warriors with the help of his business partner, Rich Kleiman.

"I heard Golden State was in the mix around the trade deadline, but that's when Rich came into play, and those relationships that we built around the league and also playing in Golden State helped," Durant said at the Game Plan Sports Business Summit on Sept. 16, per Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic. "We were able to tell them kind of hold off on that."

Durant added at the time that he was not pleased to hear about the trade rumors, and it affected his relationship with the Suns.

"Initially, I was a little upset because I felt like we built a solid relationship, me and the Phoenix Suns," he said. "And to hear that from a different party was kind of upsetting, but that's just the name of the game. So I got over that quickly and was trying to figure out what the next steps were."

The Suns sent Durant to the Rockets in a blockbuster trade at the start of the offseason. It will be his third different team since leaving the Warriors, and he's still seeking his first NBA Finals appearance since 2019.
