No. 1 CBB Prospect Tyran Stokes Reveals Commitment From Kansas, Kentucky, More as 2K Cover in Video

Doric SamApr 28, 2026

Kansas is taking home the biggest prize in the 2026 recruiting class.

During Tuesday's episode of Inside the NBA on ESPN, class of 2026 5-star small forward Tyran Stokes committed to the Jayhawks over an offer from Kentucky. Oregon, USC and Louisville were previously in the running before he narrowed his list to two schools. Stokes is ranked as the No. 1 overall player in the nation in 247Sports' composite.

The announcement came in the form of an NBA 2K cover wearing a Kansas jersey.

A 6'7", 230-pound wing, Stokes appears destined for superstardom. 247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein declared that he "has more sheer talent than anyone in the country" and explained that his offensive skills are polished well beyond his years.

"Because Stokes can be so physically imposing, it's easy for some of the nuances in his game to go under-appreciated. But he has terrific hands, allowing him to hold on to anything he touches and simultaneously have good touch," Finkelstein stated. "He also has very good footwork, both on the perimeter and at the end of his drives, and even in the mid-post. Stokes is also a much better passer than he often gets credit for, so while his turnover rate can be high (3.8 assists to 3.6 turnovers), he has real vision and skill setting up his teammates when he's not being nonchalant with the ball."

Stokes is also a two-sport athlete who played football at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, California, before surprisingly withdrawing from the school in his senior year. He landed at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle. He signed an NIL deal with Nike ahead of his senior season.

Stokes is joining a strong Jayhawks recruiting class that also includes 5-star point guard Taylen Kinney. Head coach Bill Self continues to prove himself as one of the best recruiters of all time.

Kansas fans will surely enjoy watching Stokes and Kinney lead the team during the 2026-27 season, and Stokes will certainly have the chance to solidify himself as the favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the 2027 NBA draft.
