Knicks Reportedly Want to Trade Pacome Dadiet After Malcolm Brogdon, Shamet Contracts
The New York Knicks could look to flip 2024 first-round pick Pacôme Dadiet to ease the logjam in their backcourt, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer.
Fischer noted New York needs to free up a roster spot after signing veteran guards Malcolm Brogdon and Landry Shamet. Trading Dadiet would achieve that goal, and the Knicks front office has "already called several teams to gauge interest."
Dadiet didn't make much of an impact in the NBA during his rookie year. In 18 appearances, he averaged 1.7 points and one rebound.
The 20-year-old also suited up 14 times for the Westchester Knicks, New York's NBA G League affiliate. He put up 14.9 points on 40.6 percent shooting in 14 G League games.
In addition to getting the players ready for opening night, Fischer reported there's a belief the Knicks are trying to showcase Dadiet this preseason. He played a total of 23 minutes in their two Abu Dhabi exhibitions
Leaving the Knicks' situation aside, young players can struggle to get the necessary time to develop on the court when they're on a franchise with championship aspirations. New York head coach Mike Brown wasn't around when the team settled on Dadiet in the 2024 draft, either.
The Frenchman would probably benefit from a change of scenery, and he may not be good enough to help his in a meaningful way right now. A trade makes perfect sense.
Because everyone around the NBA is aware of the Knicks' predicament, however, team president Leon Rose may struggle to find a taker before rosters need to be set on Oct. 20.
