Padres' Mason Miller Throws 104.5 MPH Pitch on Video, Sets MLB Playoff Record vs. Cubs
San Diego Padres relief pitcher Mason Miller showed Wednesday why the team acquired him ahead of the 2025 trade deadline.
With the Padres up 3-0, Miller came on in the bottom of the seventh against the Chicago Cubs and struck out the side. While punching out Cubs catcher Carson Kelly, he hit 104.5 mph on the radar gun.

That was the fastest single pitch in a playoff game since MLB's pitch tracking began in 2008.
Hitters in MLB are talented enough to catch up to fastballs that eclipse triple digits. During an August game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Miller watched as designated hitter Lourdes Gurriel Jr. deposited a 103.9 mph pitch over the left field fence.
But being able to paint the outside corner at 104, as the right-hander did against Kelly, is downright unfair.
The 2024 All-Star started the eighth by striking out Cubs shortstop Dansby Swanson and pinch hitter Moisés Ballesteros. He exited after hitting first baseman Michael Busch with a pitch.
Robert Suarez got the final four outs as San Diego evened the Wild Card Series at one game apiece.
The winner-take-all Game 3 is scheduled for Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.
Miller threw 27 total pitches in Game 2, a number he hit just four times in the regular season, and he appeared in Game 1 on Tuesday, striking out the side on 13 pitches.
Thankfully for the Cubs, they may have seen him for the last time this postseason.
