Lakers' LeBron Hypes Luka's Weight Loss, 'S--t, I Need to Get on His Routine Now'
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is one of the many who were impressed by Luka Doncic's body transformation this offseason.
When asked about Doncic's weight loss this summer during an appearance on ESPN Los Angeles on Monday, James said, "S--t, I need to get on his routine now. ... Everybody looks at it from a basketball aspect, I hope he's just happy about how he feels."
James said during his radio appearance that he hadn't yet talked to Doncic about how he shed so many pounds, but he added that he "probably won't even bring it up, the proof is in the pudding."
Doncic explained to Jason Gay of the Wall Street Journal that he took a month-long break from basketball to focus on fitness training this offseason.
"Out went the jump shots," Gay wrote. "In came the resistance bands, dead lifts, dumbbells and agility drills, plus a private chef who got a sweet break from 8 p.m. until noon the next day, as Doncic intermittently fasted."
Doncic is coming off a strong showing at the FIBA EuroBasket tournament, as he led Slovenia to the quarterfinals and led all players in scoring with an average of 34.7 points per game while also adding 8.6 rebounds and 7.1 assists on his way to earning a spot on the All-Star Five of the tournament.
James is nearing the end of his legendary career, so a slimmed-down Doncic should be able to help him lead the Lakers to title contention this season. If both of them can stay healthy, Los Angeles will have a solid chance to be one of the elite teams in the Western Conference.
