NBA HOFer Carmelo Anthony Responds to Giannis Workout Comments, 'Invite Accepted'

Mike ChiariSep 27, 2025

Basketball Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony expressed Friday that he is willing to work with Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo on his game.

Speaking this month to Sport24 (h/t NBA Central), Giannis discussed his affinity for picking the brains of retired players and named Melo as the one he would like to work with next, saying:

"I don't like working with players who are playing right now. I want to work with young guys. And with LeBron [James], for example—I could work with LeBron, but he's still playing. I'll see him in a month or two and he'll be my opponent. I like working with players who are retired. I think the next one is Carmelo Anthony. If I could work with Carmelo Anthony, I would love to."

On the latest episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Anthony suggested he would take Giannis up on his offer, saying, "Let's work," while an X post that included the clip of Melo discussing it was accompanied by the text, "Invite accepted."

In addition to showing a willingness to help Antetokounmpo with his game, Anthony praised Giannis, calling him a "student," and noting that he is "going to the right people" for advice.

The 30-year-old Antetokounmpo is already a surefire future Hall of Famer with nine All-Star nods, two NBA MVP awards, one NBA Defensive Player of the Year award, one NBA championship and one NBA Finals MVP Award to his credit.

He has averaged over 30 points per game in each of the last three seasons, including the 2024-25 campaign when he put up 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.2 blocks per contest.

Anthony never won a championship or an MVP Award, but he spent 19 productive seasons in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Los Angeles Lakers.

Melo won a scoring title and averaged 22.5 points per game for his career, and he improved significantly as a three-point shooter as the years went on, shooting 35.5 percent from beyond the arc for his career.

Three-point shooting is one of the few weaknesses in Giannis' game, as he shoots just 28.4 percent from deep in his career. If Anthony can help Antetokounmpo unlock that part of the game, he may be practically unguardable.
