Terry Rozier Reportedly Set to Attend Heat Training Camp Amid NBA Trade Rumors
Despite being rumored to be a trade candidate this offseason, Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier is ready to begin preparing for the 2025-26 campaign.
Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reported that Rozier "is expected to be an active participant in Heat training camp next week" despite the "uncertainty" surrounding his future with the franchise.
Rozier drew some attention this summer when ESPN's David Purdum reported in July that he is linked to an ongoing federal gambling investigation stemming from unusual betting activity involving him during the 2022-23 season. The NBA investigated the matter that year and found that no rules were violated, but the federal probe remains.
Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints recently reported that the Heat "are seriously considering cutting ties" with Rozier amid a lack of trade interest from around the league. The 31-year-old reportedly informed the team that he's not interested in a contract buyout from his $26.6 million salary for the upcoming year.
Miami is facing some concerns to start the year, as star guard Tyler Hero underwent ankle surgery on Friday and is expected to miss at least the first month of the season. Still, Siegel reported that Rozier "won't be a primary piece of [Heat head coach Erik] Spoelstra's rotations should he be on their opening night roster."
Rozier was expected to be a big part of Miami's offense last season after he was acquired in a Jan. 2024 trade, but he was out of the rotation by the end of the year. In his first full season with the team, he made 64 appearances with 23 starts and averaged 10.6 points, his lowest scoring average since the 2018-19 campaign.
The Heat will be hoping to contend for a playoff spot in the wide-open Eastern Conference this year, so it will be interesting to see what they do with Rozier as the start of the season draws nearer.
