Nets' Michael Porter Jr. Says He's 'Going at' Nuggets After Trade, 'Want to Show Them'

Zach BacharSep 23, 2025

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is looking forward to facing off against the Denver Nuggets, his former team, during the 2025-26 season.

"When we play (the Nuggets) it's going to be up for sure," Porter said during an appearance on The Justin Laboy Show. "It's going to be fun. I'm going to go at them dudes, I know they're going to go at me. It's going to be really fun because I want to show them, I'm in a whole different role now with Brooklyn."

On June 30, the Nuggets traded Porter and an unprotected 2032 first-round pick to the Nets in exchange for Cam Johnson.

The move provided some financial relief for Denver, as Porter is set to earn $38.3 million for the 2025-26 season and $40.8 million for his 2026-27 campaign.

Johnson will carry cap hits of just $21.1 million and $23.1 million for each season, respectively.

Porter spent his entire career with the Nuggets prior to the trade, as he was selected by the team with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft.

He steadily blossomed into a starter with Denver due to his ability to space the floor, serving as a key rotation piece during the team's championship run in 2023.

Porter is coming off a 2024-25 season in which he averaged 18.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game on 50.4/39.5/76.8 shooting splits. He only recorded 9.1 points per game while shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from behind the arc during the 2025 playoffs, though.

Johnson is similarly skilled from three-point territory, averaging 18.8 points per game while connecting on 39.0 percent of his triples with the Nets last season. He also projects as a stronger defensive fit on Denver's roster compared to Porter.

njuries have been an issue for Johnson throughout his career, appearing at least 60 games during just two of his six NBA seasons.

The first meeting between the Nets and Nuggets since the trade will occur on Jan. 4.
