Jonathan Kuminga's Agent Denies Rumor Warriors Offered $150M Contract in 2024

Amid the tense ongoing negotiations between Jonathan Kuminga and the Golden State Warriors, Kuminga's agent, Aaron Turner, has denied a rumor his client turned down a lucrative extension offer in the summer of 2024.

Appearing on The Hoop Collective Podcast (starts at 12:20 mark), Turner told ESPN's Brian Windhorst and Anthony Slater that the Warriors "didn't want to do a deal last summer" and there was never an offer of $150 million over five years on the table.

Last summer marked the first time Kuminga was eligible to sign a long-term extension. NBA insider Jake Fischer noted in August 2024 that Kuminga's camp was seeking a "full max extension" that would have been worth around $35 million annually.

Slater reported in November that the Warriors' offer topped out around $30 million per season.

However, Turner said if an offer of five years and $150 million had been presented to them, Kuminga "would have taken that" deal.

A five-year, $150 million offer would have been in line with the extensions Jalen Suggs and Jalen Johnson, who were also in the 2021 draft class with Kuminga, signed last offseason

Now, 10 days away from the Warriors' scheduled report date for training camp, Kuminga remains without a contract as a restricted free agent. Their most recent offer to the 22-year-old is reportedly for three years and $75.2 million with a team option for the third year.

Turner said on the podcast that if the Warriors changed the team option to a player option, Kuminga would sign the deal. He also explained his client is prepared to play on the one-year qualifying offer worth $7.9 million if Golden State's offer doesn't change.

"There's a lot of upside," Turner said. "He wants to pick where he wants to go. So the QO is real for sure."

Kuminga has shown tremendous potential through his first four NBA seasons, but he hasn't been able to sustain it for an extended period of time. He averaged 15.3 points per game in 47 appearances last season, though his shooting success rate was a career-low 45.4 percent from the field.
