Kyle Tucker, Dodgers Reportedly Agree to Contract, Who Do Mets, Blue Jays Target Next?

Free agent right fielder Kyle Tucker has agreed to a contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, per Jeff Passan of ESPN. Passan added the details of the contract, which is for $240 million over four years:

The deal features $30 million in deferrals, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Tucker added a video celebrating the deal on his Instagram account, adding "It's Time for Dodger Baseball."

With Tucker, arguably this year's top free agent, off the market, the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets will now have to shift their attention elsewhere. The next logical free agent to target for both squads would be star left fielder Cody Bellinger, who is coming off a fantastic season with the New York Yankees.

Bellinger was widely viewed as the second-best player on the free agent market this offseason, but he'll certainly look to raise his asking price after Tucker's new contract.

Bo Bichette could also be a big-time addition to any offense looking for firepower this offseason. A return to Toronto could make sense after the team's success last year.

Tucker, who turns 29 on Jan. 17, hit .266 (.841 OPS) with 22 home runs and 73 RBI in 136 games in 2025. In addition, Tucker scored 91 runs and stole 25 bases.

Tucker joined the majors in 2017 with the Houston Astros and made three All-Star Games (2022, 2023, 2024). He was particularly exceptional during that final stretch, a time that included a Gold Glove (2022), a Silver Slugger (2023) and the American League RBI title (2023).

Houston had one year of team control left on Tucker's contract after the end of the 2024 season but ultimately decided to move on from him in a trade to the Cubs. There were some contract extension talks in Houston, but they went nowhere.

Tucker ultimately avoided arbitration with the Cubs, agreeing to a one-season, $16.5 million deal for 2025.

He ultimately fared well in Chicago, even despite a tough month-long slump in the summer where he didn't hit a home run for 25 games, hitting .163 during that stretch (July 20-August 21). Overall, Tucker was a huge reason why the Cubs made the playoffs, improving to 92-70 after going 83-79 the year before.

However, the Cubs and Tucker have now parted ways. It's a tough loss for the Cubs, but a big win for Los Angeles, which gets a fantastic hitter and fielder to build around for the future.

The Cubs' loss is the Dodgers' gain. To the surprise of no one, the rich get richer as the back-to-back World Series champions make another major offseason splash. The kings of the hot stove year after year have now landed a potential superstar in Tucker, who should man a corner outfield spot and cement the Dodgers as World Series favorites once again.
