Bears' Jaylon Johnson Reportedly Likely out for Rest of NFL Season with Groin Injury

Timothy RappSep 15, 2025

Chicago Bears star cornerback Jaylon Johnson is likely to miss the rest of the 2025 NFL season after re-aggravating a groin injury that kept him out of action through training camp and Week 1, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Courtney Cronin previously reported that Johnson would be "out indefinitely."

Per that report, "The team still is evaluating the full extent of the injury, whether surgery is necessary, and how long Johnson will be sidelined."

It's rough timing for the 0-2 Bears, with a matchup against CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens and the Dallas Cowboys in Week 3.

Johnson, 26, is a two-time Pro Bowler, registering seven interceptions, 49 passes defensed, four forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 71 career games. His loss is a huge blow for a defense that already gave up 27 points to first-time starter J.J. McCarthy and the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 and a whopping 52 points in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions.

Jared Goff torched Chicago's secondary, throwing for 334 yards and five touchdowns.

"In the passing game, we just simply didn't affect the quarterback," head coach Ben Johnson told reporters after Sunday's loss. "We tried to mix up the coverages, and they hurt us a little bit in some of our single-high stuff with their speed. The explosive plays are an issue. You feel those."

"We can't allow explosives," safety Jaquan Brisker added. "We haven't allowed it all camp. We haven't allowed any in practice. I was shocked just like everybody else."

Johnson wasn't the only defensive starter who went down on Sunday. Linebacker T.J. Edwards also left the contest with a hamstring injury, which sidelined him in Week 1. Losing both for any period of time is a rough development for a defense that is already reeling this season.
