Cowboys' Dak Prescott Not Fined for Spitting Toward Jalen Carter in Loss to Eagles

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott did not receive a fine from the NFL for spitting on the ground in the direction of Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter in Week 1, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The incident, which occurred before the first snap of Philadelphia's 24-20 win over Dallas, resulted in Carter spitting on Prescott. Carter was ejected from the game and later fined $57,222.

He was one of four Eagles players to be fined for their actions in the season-opening victory.

The NFL announced Tuesday that Carter spitting on Prescott also warranted a suspension for the defensive tackle, but the league considered his suspension served due to his early disqualification against Dallas.

Carter issued an apology after the game.

"It was a mistake that happened on my side. It won't happen again," Carter said, via Fox Sports. "I feel bad for just my teammates and fans out there."

As for Prescott, he explained that spitting on the ground is a common occurrence for him and nothing was intentionally directed at Carter.

"Yeah, I probably spit a thousand times throughout the game," Prescott told reporters. "I mean especially game day, maybe even in general and something I guess I'm not proud of."

"I was right here by the two linemen and I guess I needed to spit, and I wasn't going to spit on my linemen and I just spit ahead," he added.

Dallas' offense initially excelled without Carter on the field, scoring 20 points in the first half. The Cowboys were ultimately held scoreless over the final two quarters, though.

Prescott finished 21-of-34 for 188 yards without tossing a touchdown or an interception. Despite Philadelphia's strong second-half defensive performance, Dallas' signal-caller wasn't sacked during the game.
