Luka Dončić posted a tremendous 39-point, 10-rebound, seven-assist effort in the EuroBasket quarterfinals on Wednesday for Slovenia against Germany, but his team was eliminated with a 99-91 loss.

Slovenia jumped out to a 32-21 lead after the first quarter, with Dončić scoring 10 points en route to 22 at halftime.

Germany hung around and kept chipping away at the lead, though. Entering the fourth quarter, Slovenia's lead was slashed to four (74-70), in part because Germany got a huge Tristan da Silva three from beyond half-court to end the third.

In the final frame, Germany took over, outscoring Slovenia 29-17. Germany went on a 7-0 run to start the fourth capped by an Andreas Obst three-pointer for a 77-74 lead.

Slovenia kept pace, though, and even took an 86-85 lead with 4:12 left after a Dončić three. Sacramento Kings guard Dennis Schröder responded with a three of his own, though, to put Germany up 88-86.

Dončić made one-of-two free throws on Slovenia's next possession to cut the lead to 88-87, but Germany then went on a 9-2 run, with seven of those points occurring at the free throw line.

For Germany, Orlando Magic forward Franz Wagner led the way with 23 points, while Schröder scored 20 and dished seven assists. Eight-year NBA veteran big man Daniel Theis added 15 points and nine boards.

Looking elsewhere in the box score, Slovenia was on the wrong side of the whistle, with Germany shooting 37 free throws to Slovenia's 25. Slovenia picked up 31 personal fouls to Germany's 24. Both teams also struggled from the three-point line, with Slovenia making only 9-of-39 threes. Germany wasn't too much better, making 9-of-30 from beyond the arc.

For Slovenia, it was certainly a tough loss, but fans were still impressed with Dončić's efforts, particularly over the tournament.

Germany has now advanced to the semifinals to play Finland. Greece will play Turkey in the other half of the bracket.
