Cubs' Kyle Tucker Predicted to Sign Dodgers Contract in 2025 Free Agency by MLB Execs
Kyle Tucker has dealt with injuries and inconsistent performance in the second half of the 2025 campaign, but that reportedly won't stop him from landing a massive contract during the upcoming offseason.
And one of Major League Baseball's biggest spenders in the Los Angeles Dodgers could be waiting.
"Rival executives still believe he'll be the highest-paid player in free agency," USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Monday. "Their prediction where he'll land? The Dodgers, who badly could use outfield help."
The Dodgers have the league's biggest payroll this season, per Spotrac, and have never been shy about spending big money when they want a player. And Tucker is the type of slugger who would add yet another impact bat to a lineup already featuring Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, among others.
After all, Tucker's resume includes a World Series title, four All-Star selections, a Silver Slugger and a Gold Glove. He led the league in RBI in 2023 when he was with the Houston Astros and has hit more than 20 home runs in each of the last five seasons.
While he hasn't been himself since the All-Star break with a .242 batting average, five home runs and 17 RBI, some of that can be explained by injury concerns. And he still has solid overall numbers this season with a .270/.381/.472 slash line, 22 home runs and 73 RBI.
Tucker is also just 28 years old, which is another reason he will surely command a significant deal this offseason.
If the price tag is high enough, the Dodgers and other potential big-spending teams won't have to worry about the Cubs breaking the bank to bring him back either despite their status as a major-market club.
At least they won't have to worry about that if recent history is any indication:
Teams that are tired of the Dodgers being a landing spot for so many big stars aren't going to want to hear it, but Tucker could be the next in line to join their loaded lineup as they attempt to continue their recent dominance.
