US Open Tennis 2025 Top Storylines to Watch in Men's Semifinals Bracket
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are one win each away from renewing their rivalry in the 2025 US Open final.
The top two seeds in the men's singles draw will be favored to advance to Sunday's final, but one player has a tougher semifinal task than the other.
Alcaraz meets No. 7 seed Novak Djokovic, one of the few players capable of beating Alcaraz or Sinner right now, on Friday.
Sinner takes on No. 25 Felix Auger-Aliassime, who will play in his first Grand Slam semifinal in four years.
The Inevitability of a Sinner-Alcaraz Final
1 of 2
A third straight Sinner-Alcaraz Grand Slam final seemed inevitable before the tournament began.
Realistically, Novak Djokovic is the only player that stands in the way of the latest chapter in the budding rivalry being written on Sunday.
Sinner and Alcaraz have been a completely different level than the rest of the field with one dropped set between the two of them through five rounds.
Sinner's looked more unstoppable as the tournament extended into the second week. He won five sets by 6-1 or 6-2 margins in the round of 16 and quarterfinals.
Alcaraz's opponents tested him a bit more, but he's still handled all of his matches with relative ease.
Unless an upset happens, Sinner and Alcaraz are ready to renew the rivalry on Sunday.
Can Novak Djokovic Pull off the Upset?
2 of 2
Novak Djokovic is more than capable of winning a Grand Slam title at the age of 38.
The difficulty of that task is high, though, because he faces Alcaraz on Friday.
Djokovic looked strong in his quarterfinal bout with No. 4 seed Taylor Fritz, but he's also never lost to the highest-ranked American in his career.
Alcaraz is playing on a much higher level than Fritz and Djokovic has to match that to have a chance on Friday.
Djokovic does own a 5-3 head-to-head record against Alcaraz, but all three of Alcaraz's victories in the series occurred in semifinals or finals.
The seventh-seeded Serbian owns a significant edge in experience, but actually completing the task is whole other thing.
He seems like the more likely upset threat compared to Felix Auger-Aliassime, who has only played at the Grand Slam semifinal once in his career.
