USA Beats Canada to Earn 3rd Place in 2025 FIBA Men's AmeriCup Bracket
Team USA came up short in its quest for a FIBA AmeriCup title, but it ended things on a positive note on Sunday.
The United States downed Canada 90-85 to win the third-place game following its loss to Brazil in the semifinals earlier this weekend.

Javonte Smart led the way for Team USA with 21 points on 9-of-13 from the field as he continued what has been a strong showing at AmeriCup. Tyler Cavanaugh added 21 points of his own on 7-of-10 from the field.
While the United States finished AmeriCup with a win in Sunday's third-place game, it's fair to say that the tournament was a bit of a disappointment for Team USA. It won its group during the group play stage, but faced an upset loss to Uruguay in the process.
The United States responded to that loss with an 83-70 win over Uruguay in the quarterfinals.
On Saturday, Team USA looked well on its way to reaching the final before a second-half collapse against Brazil. After holding a comfortable 20-point lead heading into the second half, the United States allowed a 34-9 run from Brazil over the final 10 minutes and lost 92-77.
"We're very disappointed," USA head coach Stephen Silas said. "Obviously we got up to a 20-point lead and one of my messages to the group was just to continue to do what got us to the 20-point lead. They turned up their heat. A lot of credit goes to Brazil."
The United States has seven AmeriCup championships, the most of any nation, but hasn't been as dominant in recent years. Team USA has just one title (2017) in the last seven AmeriCups, and they'll leave the tournament empty-handed once again this year.
Argentina and Brazil will play for the FIBA AmeriCup championship on Sunday night.
