Breaking Down NBA 2K26's Best New Features for This Year's Game

The 2025-26 NBA season is right around the corner and with it comes the release of the annual, hotly anticipated edition of the league's video game, NBA 2K26,

New Gameplay Updates

This year's game features several gameplay upgrades, designed to make the offering as close to the authentic NBA experience as possible.

ProPLAY is an all-new motion engine in NBA 2K26 and is the biggest change to player movement since the 2021 release. The official 2K website hypes the introduction of the new engine, stating, "Dynamic lower-body pose matching adjusts the exact positioning of players' legs and feet on the fly and ensures they launch, plant and cut realistically."

Shooting is improved via Enhanced Rhythmic Shooting, controls have been revamped to help make for a more free-flowing game experience, and Learn 2K: NBA 2K26 offers a tutorial that bridges the gap between previous controls and the new upgrades, making it easier for players to pick up the game in an easier and more timely fashion.

Defensive improvements also include the use of the ProPLAY motion engine, while integrating AI coaching allows for an even more advanced style of play on and off the ball.

NBA and WNBA Crossover in MyTeam

For the first time ever, gamers will have the opportunity to earn player cards from both the NBA and WNBA and play with the best and brightest from both leagues on the same squad as part of MyTeam.

Now, fans of the game franchise can dominate the competition with the one-two punch of LeBron James and A'ja Wilson or Jayson Tatum and Napheesa Collier.

It is the most prominent example of men and women in the game sharing the same stage as equals, with the ability for Paige Bueckers, Caitlin Clark, or Angel Reese to be on the same pedestal alongside Jalen Brunson, Luka Dončić, and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

It is a fantastic way to create even more awareness for the women's games while, potentially, creating new fans, all of whom have the opportunity to play with the WNBA's best and brightest.

The game's official website added:

"Attributes and Badges function identically for all WNBA and NBA Player Cards, ensuring a balanced and consistent gameplay experience regardless of who you're controlling. In addition to mixing and matching WNBA and NBA superstars, all WNBA uniforms have been added along with the entire league's set of court floors. These courts include an added NBA three-point line to maintain a seamless experience across all MyTEAM competitive modes."

New Game Changer Cards use rewards to make MyTeam player more powerful. Some of those rewards include recovering a win streak after a loss, instantly completing an exhibition mission, or reducing the difficulty or target score differential in Domination, among others.

Gamers can take their play to Triple Threat Park at Night or, in All-Star Team Up, can participate in 5-on-5 games with friends or random players.

King of the Court touts a $10,000 grand prize every weekend for the best gamers.

"In NBA 2K26, King of the Court boasts a $10,000 USD (and 1 Million VC) grand prize every weekend for the No. 1 finisher across PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S, from September 12 through August 2. No. 1 finishers on PC and Nintendo Switch 2 will each receive 1 Million VC," the site states.
