Tim Tebow Announced as Co-Owner of ECHL Expansion Team in Augusta, Georgia
Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is continuing to develop his team ownership portfolio.
The minor ice hockey league ECHL announced on Wednesday that Tebow will be a co-owner of an expansion team in Augusta, Georgia, alongside Hodges Management Group CEO David Hodges. The expansion application has been approved, and the yet-to-be-named club will officially begin play in the 2027-28 Season.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to bring hockey back to Augusta with our partnership group," Tebow said in a release. "We are excited to see this team bring people together from all over the country to enjoy camaraderie, competition, and community impact. Our desire is to make a positive impact both on and off the ice. We can't wait for the puck drop in October of 2027!"

This is Tebow's second foray into minor league ice hockey team ownership. In July 2023, he was approved as a co-owner of an ECHL expansion team in Lake Tahoe, later dubbed the Tahoe Knight Monsters. He also previously served as a minor partner in the ECHL's Jacksonville Icemen and Savannah Ghost Pirates.
In addition to his hockey endeavors, Tebow became an investor in USL Championship and USL Super League soccer club Sporting Club Jacksonville near the end of 2023. The club is aiming to debut in the USL Championship in 2026.
The expansion team in Augusta will push the ECHL to 32 teams, matching the number of squads both in the NHL and the minor league AHL. The New Augusta Arena, a 10,500-seat venue that is currently under construction in downtown Augusta, will be the home for the new franchise.
