Mark Cuban and Steve Ballmer Met to Discuss DeAndre Jordan Free Agency

Mike ChiariJul 15, 2015

DeAndre Jordan's decision to spurn the Dallas Mavericks in favor of a return to the Los Angeles Clippers sent shockwaves through the NBA, but owners Mark Cuban and Steve Ballmer have already cleared the air regarding the situation.

Cuban and the Mavs had a verbal contract agreement in place with the All-Star center, but he ultimately backed out after getting cold feet.

While Cuban was understandably upset about the situation, he revealed via Cyber Dust (h/t ESPN.com) that there are no hard feelings between him and Ballmer after they sat down Tuesday during the NBA's league meetings.

"I told him exactly what I told other owners, I didn't have a problem with his hail Mary approach to keeping a player," Cuban said. "I understood why they did it. And even how they did it. They got their player back. End of story."

The controversial Mavs owner may not have any issues with Ballmer, but he clearly still feels slighted by Jordan. That is despite the fact that the coveted big man apologized for the way he did business on Twitter:

Even after Jordan's tweets, Cuban essentially offered up a cold shoulder when asked about the player who got away by Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports.

"Who?" Cuban asked.ย "It's over. You move on. [Expletive] happens."

Ballmer did what essentially any owner would do to keep a key player. He didn't break any rules, and he simply took advantage of the fact that Jordan was uncertain about his initial decision.

Cuban can certainly understand that as a great businessman in his own right, but few will blame him if some bitterness remains on the heels of a potentially pivotal signing in franchise history that went awry.
