NBA Insiders Reportedly Downplay Dalton Knecht's Summer League Struggles for Lakers
Dalton Knecht didn't have a very good showcase at this year's Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 10.3 points while shooting just 27.9 percent shooting from the floor.
But that reportedly hasn't soured his overall outlook among folks within the NBA.
Dan Woike of The Athletic wrote Wednesday, "I think NBA evaluators haven't put much stock into his summer-league performance."
Perhaps not, but Knecht hasn't exactly trended in a great direction since a strong start to his rookie campaign. He fell toward the fringes of the team's rotation as the regular season progressed, was temporarily a member of the Charlotte Hornets before the team's trade for center Mark Williams fell through and only made two appearances in the postseason, playing for a total of four minutes.
A strong showing at the Summer League—which is generally expected of young players ahead of their sophomore campaigns—would have eased some of the concerns Lakers' fans have had about his development. That didn't happen, but NBA evaluators reportedly aren't reading too deeply into the lackluster showing.
