Lynx's Napheesa Collier Reportedly Out 2 Weeks After Avoiding 'Major' Ankle Injury
Minnesota Lynx superstar Napheesa Collier will reportedly miss at least two weeks after suffering a right ankle sprain, according to ESPN's Kendra Andrews.
Per that report, "imaging revealed she avoided major injury when she went down against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday. She’ll be re-evaluated in two weeks."
That means that Collier will miss at least the next four games.
The Lynx superstar has been the MVP favorite this season, averaging 23.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.6 blocks per game, shooting 53.7 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three. She remains the MVP favorite (-200), leading Alyssa Thomas (+250), Sabrina Ionescu (+1500) and A'ja Wilson (+2000), per DraftKings.
The Lynx have likewise thrived and currently sit atop the WNBA standings with a 24-5 record, 5.5 games ahead of the second-place New York Liberty (18-10).
The nature of Collier's injury raised a few eyebrows, however. The star remained in Saturday's game despite the Lynx holding a 43-point lead over the Las Vegas Aces in the third quarter. Collier collided with Minnesota's Alanna Smith, landing awkwardly. She remained on the floor for several minutes before walking off the court with assistance and didn't return for the fourth quarter.
"It's tough," Kayla McBride told reporters after the game. "I thought we put a great 40 minutes together, but you hate to see anybody go down, but especially your MVP."
