Angel Reese Reacts to Setting WNBA Rebound Record, Says She 'Couldn't Hit S--t'

Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese set the WNBA's single-game rebounding record with 26 boards (eight offensive) in a 78-71 road win over the Los Angeles Sparks on Monday. Along the way, Reese also set the new single-season rebounding mark with 458.

After the game, Reese admitted her shot was off (4-of-14, 3-of-4 from the line en route to 11 points), but she knew that success on the boards could develop.

"Last time I was here, I didn't miss any shots. Tonight, I couldn't hit s--t, so I knew I was going be able to get them on the rebounding side," Reese said on Peacock's postgame show (h/t ESPN's Michael Voepel). "I just want to be consistent for my team. Offensively, defensively, whatever it takes to win."

Alisha Gray ended up being the Dream's offensive star, scoring a team-high 20 points on just 7-of-11 shooting.

Reese's single-game rebounding mark broke a single-game record that Chamique Holdsclaw held for 23 years after the then-Washington Mystic grabbed 24 rebounds on May 23, 2003.

Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson previously held the single-season rebounding record with 451, set in 2024.

Reese has been playing very well of late during her team's four-game winning streak, which puts Atlanta into fourth place in the WNBA standings with a 25-13 record. During that streak, Reese is averaging 20.8 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.5 steals per game.

Reese made all nine of her shots in a 124-88 road win over the Sparks on Aug. 20, posting 20 points, 10 boards, eight assists and three steals along the way. She also had a 31-point, 14-rebound effort in a 99-89 road win over the Phoenix Mercury.

Atlanta will play two more games before the season breaks for the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup. First, the Dream will host the Portland Fire on Friday, and then they'll welcome the Minnesota Lynx into town on Sunday.
