Yankees' Luis Gil Returns from Injury to Make Season Debut vs. Marlins
The New York Yankees will have a key starter back in the rotation on Sunday as Luis Gil has been activated to make his season debut against the Miami Marlins.
Per the Talkin' Yanks podcast, Yankees manager Aaron Boone previously said on Tuesday that Gil was expected to throw 75 pitches in his rehab start in Triple-A on Tuesday, and if things went well, he would start on Sunday.

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Gil has yet to make his season debut after suffering a high-grade lat strain in May. He made a rehab start in Triple-A last week, allowing four hits and five runs in 3.1 innings. He recorded four strikeouts and three walks, throwing 67 pitches and 44 strikes.
The reigning AL Rookie of the Year is coming off a season in which he recorded a 15-7 record behind a 3.50 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP.
The Yankees' rotation has been depleted by injuries this season. It started in the spring when star ace Gerrit Cole underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery, and New York has faced a few more blows throughout the year. Starter Clarke Schmidt recently underwent Tommy John surgery as well.
Even with all the injuries, the Yankees have managed to stay afloat, sitting in third place in the AL East at 60-51. Getting Gil back on the mound could help spark a late-season surge after recent struggles.
