Jonathan Kuminga's Best Contract Offer from Warriors Reportedly In '$40M Range'
Golden State Warriors restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga still seems far from a resolution in his contract situation, and more details have emerged about the ongoing negotiations.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Warriors' "best offers to Kuminga have topped out in the two-year $40 million range." However, that offer has been deemed unsatisfactory, as "Kuminga's camp has continued to seek out sign-and-trade opportunities."
Stein named the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns as the teams "regarded as the most determined suitors," though it was noted that Golden State "is said to want a first-round pick in any sign-and-trade deal." The Suns don't have an available first-round pick to offer, likely putting them out of the running for Kuminga.
ESPN's Tim Bontemps and Bobby Marks also recently explained that the Warriors "could be hard-capped at the first-apron if [Kuminga] is sign-and-traded." The delay in resolving his situation has hindered Golden State's free-agent pursuits, as the team still has six open roster spots.
Kuminga has yet to secure an offer sheet from another team that meets his demands and exceeds the Warriors' offer, so his best course could be to stay put and allow the team to explore future trades for him at next season's deadline.
