76ers' VJ Edgecombe Explains Getting Heated at Klay Thompson During Pickup Game
Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe is as competitive as they come, and he let that competitiveness get the best of him when he played in a pickup game against Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson.
On Podcast P with Paul George, Edgecombe explained that Thompson having his way with him on the court had him "hot," though it also served as a reminder that the competition in the NBA is on another level.
"I was still hot, though. Man, I was hot," he said (32:00 mark). "Because he scored like three times in a row, and I realized it's a little different."
But Edgecombe could only stay mad at Thompson for so long, as he said he had the chance to pick the four-time champion's brain.
"At the gym, I just asked him different questions," he said. "But the main thing he told me was just enjoy the journey. He was like, 'You're gonna win championships,' and all that, but the draft night and all that, it's going to be the best time."
Thompson has had a tremendous career, and now Edgecombe is looking to find a similar level of success in the NBA.
Edgecombe joins the 76ers after spending the 2024-25 season at Baylor. In his sole season with the Bears, he put up 15 points, 5.6 boards and 2.1 steals per game.
