1 Move for Every MLB Team Before the 2025 Trade Deadline
The 2025 MLB trade deadline is fast-approaching, and ahead of Thursday's flurry of activity, it's time to match buyers and sellers and cook up one hypothetical trade for all 30 teams.
Ahead, we've crafted 15 trade proposals spanning each of the 30 teams, with a breakdown of what each side is getting in the swap.
There might not be a Juan Soto-level blockbuster deal on the horizon this year, but there is still a lot of impact talent set to change hands in the coming days.
What do we expect your favorite team to do?
Astros Acquire Edward Cabrera from Marlins
1 of 15
To HOU: SP Edward Cabrera
The Marlins might end up opting against selling low on Sandy Alcantara this summer, but he's not the only attractive trade chip in their starting rotation. Cabrera has long had some of the best stuff in the Miami organization, and he is enjoying his best season from a results standpoint with a 3.35 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 96 strikeouts in 94 innings. The 27-year-old is controllable through the 2028 season, and the Marlins' asking price will reflect that added value.
To MIA: C Walker Janek (No. 4 HOU prospect), OF Joseph Sullivan (No. 8 HOU prospect)
Janek was the No. 28 overall pick in the 2024 draft, and he is hitting .261/.342/.454 with 26 extra-base hits and 22 steals in 62 games at High-A. Sullivan has been one of the early steals from that same draft class, going in the seventh round. He is hitting .241/.415/.475 with 17 home runs and 36 steals, and he recently received a promotion to Double-A.
Blue Jays Acquire Marcell Ozuna from Braves
2 of 15
To TOR: DH/OF Marcell Ozuna
Trading for Ozuna would mean George Springer sees more regular action in the outfield, but it would be a major boon to the Toronto offense. With Dalton Varsho and Anthony Santander both sidelined, the Blue Jays have been forced to lean more heavily than expected on guys such as Joey Loperfido, Myles Straw, Davis Schneider and Alan Roden in the outfield. Ozuna has a 112 OPS+ with 14 home runs and 44 RBI, and he could be reinvigorated with a change of scenery.
To ATL: SS Josh Kasevich (No. 10 TOR prospect)
Kasevich hit .296/.348/.385 with 28 doubles, six home runs, 64 RBI and 13 steals during the 2024 season, but a back injury has limited him to just eight games this year. With a 55-grade hit tool and plus defensive tools, he has starting shortstop upside, albeit with limited impact potential on offense given his lack of power.
Brewers Acquire Ryan O'Hearn from Orioles
3 of 15
To MIL: 1B/OF Ryan O'Hearn
The Brewers have been linked to O'Hearn after also taking a run at Josh Naylor before he was traded to the Mariners, so a left-handed power bat seems to be on their shopping list. First baseman Andrew Vaughn has provided a nice spark in 14 games since he was acquired from the White Sox, but O'Hearn has a much stronger track record of production and would also be an option at an outfield corner.
To BAL: RHP Ethan Dorchies, RHP Brett Wichrowski
Ideally, the Orioles would bolster the pitching side of a farm system that has skewed heavily toward bats in recent years with their upcoming fire sale. The Brewers have more than a few intriguing arms, with Dorchies (51.1 IP, 1.40 ERA, 60 K, .149 BAA) and Wichrowski (60.1 IP, 2.69 ERA, 47 K, .254 BAA) both enjoying strong seasons. The latter could be ready to help in 2026, while the former is still only 18 years old and pitching well at Single-A after signing an above-slot deal as a 10th-round pick in 2024.
Cubs Acquire Shane Bieber from Guardians
4 of 15
To CHC: SP Shane Bieber
The Guardians signed Bieber to a one-year, $10 million deal during the offseason that includes a 2026 player option worth $16 million and carrying a $4 million buyout. He has yet to pitch at the MLB level this year as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery, but he is on the comeback trail, allowing four hits and one earned run with 14 strikeouts in 7.1 innings over his first three rehab starts.
The Guardians were on the other end of a similar trade pickup last year when they acquired a rehabbing Alex Cobb, and he ended up starting two playoff games.
To CLE: 1B/OF Jonathon Long (No. 5 CHC prospect)
A ninth-round pick in 2023, Long has done nothing but hit since starting his pro career, and he has a .314/.402/.501 line with 16 doubles, 15 home runs and 66 RBI in 95 games at Triple-A this year. Primarily a first baseman who has made a handful of starts at third base and in left field, he does not have a clear path to playing time in Chicago and is a logical trade target for an offense-needy Guardians organization.
Dodgers Acquire Griffin Jax, Danny Coulombe from Twins
5 of 15
To LAD: RP Griffin Jax, RP Danny Coulombe
Injuries to the starting rotation have put a heavy burden on the Dodgers' relief corps. Their bullpen leads the majors with 465 innings pitched—a staggering 37.2 more innings than any other team—and reinforcements will be necessary at the trade deadline.
Flame-throwing closer Jhoan Durán is the Twins' best trade chip, but there's a case to be made that a package of Jax (49 G, 21 HLD, 3.91 ERA, 14.1 K/9) and Coulombe (40 G, 8 HLD, 1.16 ERA, 9.0 K/9) would be more valuable to the Dodgers at a similar acquisition cost. Jax is controllable through 2027, while Coulombe would be a straight rental.
To MIN: IF Alex Freeland (No. 5 LAD prospect, No. 63 on B/R Top 100), RHP Patrick Copen, OF Brendan Tunink
Freeland is a consensus Top 100 prospect who was recently promoted to the big leagues after hitting .253/.377/.421 with 26 doubles, 12 home runs and 71 RBI in 94 games at Triple-A. He has split his time between shortstop and third base, and he could fill the role Willi Castro has if he is moved as expected. Copen (91.1 IP, 2.27 ERA, 123 K at A+/AA) and Tunink (168 PA, .967 OPS, 20 XBH in rookie ball) are both prospects on the rise in a deep Dodgers system.
Giants Acquire Jeffrey Springs, Luis Urías from Athletics
6 of 15
To SF: SP Jeffrey Springs, 2B Luis Urías
The Giants need to shore up their starting rotation behind Logan Webb, Robbie Ray and Justin Verlander. And while recently promoted Carson Whisenhunt has the potential to help, adding a veteran like Springs would provide a proven fourth option. The 32-year-old has a 4.13 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 120 innings, and he has a reasonable $10.5 million salary in 2026. Urías would provide some useful infield depth and a potential regular option at second base if he is swinging a hot bat.
To ATH: LHP Jacob Bresnahan (No. 10 SF prospect), RHP Trent Harris, OF Wade Meckler
Bresnahan is the prize of this trade package as a 20-year-old lefty with a projectable 6'4", 195-pound frame and strong results this year at Single-A where he has a 3.18 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 84 strikeouts in 65 innings. Harris is a MLB-ready reliever capable of multi-inning work, while Meckler is a hit-over-power fourth outfielder who can slide right onto the MLB roster.
Mariners Acquire Kyle Finnegan from Nationals
7 of 15
To SEA: RP Kyle Finnegan
The Mariners bullpen is far from a glaring weakness with a 3.76 ERA that ranks 10th in the majors, but they could use at least one more quality late-inning option to go with Andrés Muñoz, Matt Brash and Eduard Bazardo. Finnegan ranks third among all pitchers since the start of 2023 with 86 saves, and he would slot in as a setup option on a contender.
To WAS: C Josh Caron
Finnegan is a second-tier rental option in a deep field of available relievers, so it's unlikely he is going to bring back much more than a low-level prospect. Caron hit .308/.388/.579 with 15 doubles, 16 home runs and 65 RBI as a junior at the University of Nebraska before going in the fourth round of the 2024 draft. His 50-grade power and defensive potential make him an intriguing upside play at a premium position.
Mets Acquire Jake Bird, Jimmy Herget from Rockies
8 of 15
To NYM: RP Jake Bird, RP Jimmy Herget
This might not look like the most exciting trade package at first glance, but adding Bird (45 G, 10 HLD, 4.73 ERA (3.45 FIP), 10.5 K/9) and Herget (37 G, 2 HLD, 2.80 ERA (3.88 FIP), 7.2 K/9) would give the Mets one of the deepest bullpens in the National League.
With the rotation back to full strength and Ronny Mauricio swinging at hot bat at third base, the bullpen looks like the most likely area of focus.
To COL: RHP Blade Tidwell, RHP Dylan Ross
Tidwell can be plugged right into the Rockies rotation, as he made his big league debut earlier this year and has a 4.32 ERA and 84 strikeouts in 75 innings at Triple-A this season. Ross can also help immediately, as he has a 2.43 ERA and 15.7 K/9 in 32 appearances across three minor league levels and is currently pitching at Triple-A.
Padres Acquire Taylor Ward from Angels
9 of 15
To SD: OF Taylor Ward, C Travis d'Arnaud
The Padres either need to find a productive designated hitter, or a left fielder who can allow Gavin Sheets to move into the primary DH role. Ward would address that need, and while his .308 on-base percentage leaves something to be desired, he has a 118 OPS+ with 25 doubles and 25 home runs, and he comes with club control through 2026.
Adding d'Arnaud would provide an offensive upgrade to the light-hitting veteran tandem of Martín Maldonado and Elías Díaz behind the plate, and it would allow the Angels to shed his $6 million salary for 2026.
To LAA: RHP Braden Nett, OF Tirso Ornelas, LHP Omar Cruz
Nett has developed into arguably the top pitching prospect in a thin Padres system, and with a 3.53 ERA and 82 strikeouts in 71.1 innings at Double-A, he could be knocking on the MLB door by this time next year. Ornelas and Cruz are both currently playing at Triple-A and could be ready for the majors even sooner, which is something the Angels have prioritized when collecting young talent in recent years.
Phillies Acquire David Bednar, Dennis Santana from Pirates
10 of 15
To PHI: RP David Bednar, RP Dennis Santana
It's no secret the Phillies' biggest deadline need is to shore up to the bullpen, and a packaged deal to land Bednar (42 G, 17 SV, 2.37 ERA, 12.1 K/9) and Santana (45 G, 13 HLD, 1.39 ERA, 7.1 K/9) would be a huge step toward accomplishing that goal. Both pitchers are controllable through 2026, so this would also serve as more than just a temporary Band-Aid like the Carlos Estévez trade a year ago.
To PIT: OF Hendry Mendez (No. 9 PHI prospect), OF Gabriel Rincones Jr., 1B Keaton Anthony
Mendez has been one of the biggest breakout prospects in the Phillies system this year, hitting .294/.378/.433 with 23 extra-base hits and almost as many walks (39) as strikeouts (43) in 83 games. He will be 21 years old for the remainder of the 2025 season.
Rincones has a 50-hit, 50-power offensive profile and is currently playing at the Triple-A level, while Anthony is hitting .316/.369/.475 with 36 extra-base hits in the upper levels of the minors with his 55-grade hit tool on display. All three prospects are capable of bolstering the Pirates offense in the near future.
Rangers Acquire Ryan Helsley, Phil Maton from Cardinals
11 of 15
To TEX: RP Ryan Helsley, RP Phil Maton
At surface level, the Rangers have one of the best bullpens in baseball with a 3.25 ERA that trails only the Padres (3.03) for the top spot in all of baseball. However, they have converted just 27 of 45 save opportunities, and fortifying the late innings will be item No. 1 on their trade deadline to-do list.
Helsley (36 G, 21 SV, 3.00 ERA, 10.3 K/9) and Maton (40 G, 20 HLD, 2.35 ERA, 11.3 K/9) would join Robert Garcia, Shawn Armstrong and Hoby Milner to give the Rangers a formidable late-inning contingent.
To STL: LHP Kohl Drake (No. 5 TEX prospect), OF Dylan Dreiling, RHP Maicol Reyes
With a 3.10 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 87 strikeouts in 72.2 innings in the upper levels of the minors this year, Drake is the type of prospect who will appeal to rebuilding clubs as a potential future rotation piece who is on the cusp of the big leagues. Dreiling is a toolsy power bat who was a second-round pick in 2024, while Reyes is a 20-year-old flier with a 2.73 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 29.2 innings in rookie ball.
Red Sox, Royals Swap Prospects
12 of 15
To BOS: C Carter Jensen (No. 3 KC prospect)
There is a case to be made that Jensen is one of the 10 best catching prospects in baseball, but he's not the top catching prospect in his own system behind Blake Mitchell. That could make him an expendable piece, and after the Red Sox traded away Kyle Teel, there is no clear catcher of the future in their pipeline.
Jensen, 22, is hitting .282/.354/.462 with 14 home runs and 59 RBI in 88 games between Double-A and Triple-A, and he has also thrown out a respectable 24 percent of base stealers.
To KC: OF Jhostynxon Garcia (No. 5 BOS prospect)
Garcia has backed up his 2024 breakout performance by hitting .278/.361/.474 with 12 doubles, 14 home runs and 48 RBI in 81 games between Double-A and Triple-A. The 22-year-old is close to ready for his first big league action, but the Red Sox already have a crowded outfield in the majors, making him one of the most obvious trade candidates among prospects. For the Royals, he would provide a much-needed young outfield bat with legitimate offensive upside.
Reds Acquire Pete Fairbanks from Rays
13 of 15
To CIN: RP Pete Fairbanks
Emilio Pagan (45 G, 22 SV, 2.64 ERA, 10.8 K/9) is having a fantastic season at the back of the Reds bullpen and Tony Santillan (52 G, 22 HLD, 2.79 ERA, 8.8 K/9) has developed into a quality setup option, but the Cincinnati bullpen needs reinforcement for a playoff push. Fairbanks has 66 saves with a 2.98 ERA and 10.0 K/9 in 135 appearances the last three seasons, and he comes with a team-friendly $7 million club option for 2026.
To TB: RHP Luis Mey
The Rays have been successful with one of the smallest budgets in baseball because they are constantly looking to get younger and cheaper. Armed with a 70-grade fastball that touches 102 mph and a wipeout slider, Mey has the potential to be a low-cost, high-leverage relief arm for years to come.
Tigers Acquire Eugenio Suárez from Diamondbacks
14 of 15
To DET: 3B Eugenio Suárez
Suárez left Monday's game after getting hit in the right hand with a pitch, but the X-rays came back negative, so full speed ahead on him being arguably the top trade candidate on the market this summer. With Zach McKinstry hitting .150/.282/.333 in 71 plate appearances over his last 20 games, third base looks like the most glaring hole on the roster. It would also be a homecoming of sorts for Suárez, who began his pro career with the Tigers when he was signed out of Venezuela in 2008.
To ARI: RHP Jaden Hamm (No. 6 DET prospect), 2B Max Anderson (No. 7 DET prospect), IF Franyerber Montilla
The Tigers are not going to part with Kevin McGonigle, Max Clark, Bryce Rainer or Josue Briceño for a rental, even if it's the top rental bat on the market, but they have more than enough secondary prospect talent to put together a competitive offer.
Hamm had a breakout 2024 season and looks like a future rotation piece or high-leverage bullpen arm, while Anderson is hitting .316/.366/.523 with 25 doubles, 13 home runs and 59 RBI in 80 games at Double-A.
Montilla is the wild card of the package, with a 55-grade hit tool and the potential to stick at shortstop as he navigates Single-A in his age-20 season.
Yankees Acquire Adrian Houser from White Sox
15 of 15
To NYY: SP Adrian Houser
With a 4-8 record in their last 12 games and an injury to superstar Aaron Judge, there have been some rumblings that the Yankees might opt for "soft buying" rather than aggressively pursuing upgrades beyond the moves they've already made to acquire Ryan McMahon and Amed Rosario.
Houser has been a pleasant surprise for the White Sox with a 2.10 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in 68.2 innings over 11 starts; and playing on a one-year deal, he is among the most obvious trade chips in baseball. Adding him would help ease the loss of Clarke Schmidt and shore up the back end of the rotation.
To CWS: OF Everson Pereira
Pereira has spent parts of the last three seasons at Triple-A, and it's looking more and more like he will never get a legitimate shot at the big league level with the Yankees. The 24-year-old has hit .271/.360/.520 with 37 home runs and 112 RBI in 143 career games at Triple-A, and he would be the perfect plug-and-play addition for the rebuilding White Sox.
