Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly Trades Reportedly Being Entertained by D-Backs amid Rumors
The Arizona Diamondbacks are reportedly open to trading starting pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Diamondbacks' "initial preference" was to trade either Gallen or Kelly but both players could end up experiencing a change of scenery "if the team receives strong enough offers."
Per Rosenthal, the "bar" that Arizona sets "will be higher than the value of the draft picks they would receive as compensation" if both right-handers rejected qualifying offers and pursued free agency.

The Diamondbacks currently sit at No. 4 in the National League West standings with a 51-53 record, as Rosenthal previously reported that they plan to move "at least some of their veterans" ahead of the trade deadline.
Arizona didn't waste much time getting started, sending first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.
As for Gallen, he's struggled to open his 2025 campaign. The 29-year-old owns a 5.58 ERA and 1.372 WHIP, while his average of 8.6 strikeouts per nine innings represents a career-low mark.
Still, Gallen is just two years removed from an All-Star appearance as well as a No. 3 finish in NL Cy Young Award voting. He also owns a career 3.59 ERA, which should be enticing for opposing organizations hoping that he can excel on a new team.
Meanwhile, Kelly has fared much better this year. The veteran has posted a 3.32 ERA as well as a 9-5 record in 21 starts and has been particularly sharp as of late, giving up a mere four earned runs across 18 innings pitched over his past three appearances.
The Diamondbacks could end up being one of the most active teams in the majors ahead of the trade deadline, which is on Thursday at 6 p.m. ET.
