Kansas' Bill Self Hospitalized, Expected to Make Full Recovery After Heart Procedure
Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self was hospitalized for a procedure Thursday but is expected to make a full recovery.
"Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self felt unwell and experienced some concerning symptoms Thursday," Kansas Athletics said in a statement. "He was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he had two stents inserted. The procedure went very well, and he is expected to make a full recovery. He is in good spirits and expects to be released from the hospital soon."
CJ Moore of The Athletic noted Self missed the NCAA men's tournament and Big 12 tournament during the 2022-23 season because of a heart condition. He was also hospitalized then with chest tightness and balance concerns.

At that time, Self underwent a heart catheterization and had two stents placed to help treat blocked arteries.
He also missed time during a four-game suspension in 2022-23, which was self-imposed by the school following the FBI's investigation into college basketball recruiting. Jayhawks assistant coach Norm Roberts was the interim in both cases, although he retired this offseason.
The latest incident came after Self coached practice Thursday.
Self is a Kansas legend and one of the most accomplished college basketball coaches in the sport's history. He has been the head coach for the Jayhawks since the 2003-04 season and is 624-156 during his tenure.
His teams have won two national championships, reached four Final Fours, won the Big 12 regular-season title 17 times and won the Big 12 tournament nine times.
Self coached at Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Illinois before taking the Kansas job. He was at Illinois for just three seasons but won the Big Ten regular season twice and the conference tournament once.
The Jayhawks' full slate for the 2025-26 campaign has not been finalized, but they are scheduled to face Louisville in an exhibition game on Oct. 24 ahead of the regular-season opener against Green Bay on Nov. 3.
