Giannis Intends to Play for Greece at FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Before NBA Season
Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo intends to play for Greece at this year's FIBA EuroBasket competition.
The 30-year-old just authored another fantastic season, averaging 30.4 points on 60.1 percent shooting, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 1.2 blocks. He landed on his seventh straight All-NBA First Team and finished third in the NBA MVP race.
Antetokounmpo has represented Greece in numerous international competitions, most recently at the 2024 Summer Olympics. He also took part in the most recent EuroBasket competition in 2022.
Antetokounmpo was sensational in that tournament, averaging 29.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and 4.7 rebounds. Greece went an undefeated 5-0 in group play and defeated Czech Republic 94-88 in the Round of 16 before falling to Germany in the quarterfinals.
Now Antetokounmpo is back and hoping to vault Greece to its first gold medal since 2005 (and second overall in the competition). Greece is in Group C with Cyprus, Italy, Georgia, Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Greece opens the competition on Aug. 28 against Italy.
