Malcolm Brogdon Reportedly Remains on Lakers' Radar After Marcus Smart Contract

Timothy RappJul 21, 2025

The Los Angeles Lakers currently have 14 players under contract and are just under the first apron threshold, where they are hard-capped, after adding Marcus Smart and waiving both Shake Milton and Jordan Goodwin.

If they do make another move, however, keep an eye on Malcolm Brogdon.

According to Brett Siegel of Clutch Points, "Brogdon, a player Los Angeles expressed trade interest in before the 2025 NBA trade deadline, remains on their radar should the team free up extra funds in a small consolidation trade. The Lakers had also previously expressed interest in defensive-minded swingman Gary Payton II before Smart reached his buyout in Washington."

Siegel also noted that Brogdon was "connected" to the Golden State Warriors during the annual rumor mill that is the Las Vegas Summer League.

Brogdon, 32, appeared in just 24 games for the tanking Washington Wizards last season, averaging 12.7 points and 4.1 assists per contest. While injuries have dampened his impact in recent years, he's a solid rotational option for a contending team's backcourt and would make sense for either the Lakers or Dubs.
