Luka Doncic Wants to Be Known as 'Guy That Brought Championships' to Lakers
Luka Doncic is prepared to take the lead in Los Angeles.
Heading into his second season with the Lakers, the 26-year-old said he wants to be known as “the guy that brought championships to the city."
Doncic was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers in a blockbuster deal early February that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas in a three-team trade, sending shockwaves through the NBA.
Despite the initial surprise, Doncic seems to have settled in well with the Lakers after leaving the franchise that drafted him No. 3 overall in 2018 and joining veteran LeBron James.
The Lakers, who boast 17 championships and 65 playoff appearances, were eliminated in the first round by the Minnesota Timberwolves during Doncic’s first season with the team.
Last season, Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 7.7 assists in the regular season, and boosted those numbers to 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists across five playoff games.
The Lakers last won the NBA Finals in the 2019-2020 season, defeating the Miami Heat in six games, and Doncic is eager to add to the franchise’s recent success.
