Trae Young Reportedly 'Locked In' with Hawks, 'Excited' About NBA Free Agency Signings
Trae Young is reportedly "locked in" with the Atlanta Hawks and "excited" about their offseason moves ahead the 2025-26 season.
"Trae Young by all accounts I'm told is locked in, he's excited about this team. He really believes this team is as close to that team that made it to the ECF," ESPN's Shams Charania said. "If there is no extension...I would not be surprised if he just waits until the 2026 summer"
The Hawks have seen several notable departures this offseason, including Clint Capela, Caris LeVert, Larry Nance Jr., Terance Mann and Georges Niang.
However, additions that have Young optimistic include All-Star and NBA champion Kristaps Porzingis, eight-year veteran Luke Kennard, and former New Orlean sPelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
Meanwhile, as of July 6, Trae Young became eligible for a four-year, $229 million extension with the Hawks that would carry him into his 30s. He's entering the final year of his guaranteed deal, with a player option for the 2026-27 season.
So far, no extension talks have progressed for the four-time All-Star although a deal is expected to happen at some point.
With Young locked in and a few notable additions to the team, the Hawks are looking to return to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2021.
