BYU's AJ Dybantsa Says He May Consider Competing in Future NBA Dunk Contest

Taylyn Hadley Jul 17, 2025

BYU commit AJ Dybantsa teased that an NBA dunk contest could be in his future.

"I do have bounce but after seeing what Mac McClung's done...I don't think I can do that," said on ESPN's SportsCenter. "If the opportunity comes, I'll definitely take a look at it and will see if I'm in it"

The 2025 high school graduate has previously impressed in dunk contests, as he once soared over WNBA star Angel Reese for a highlight-reel dunk at the Sprite Jam Fest, earning a perfect 50 and adding fuel to the growing NBA Dunk Contest buzz surrounding him.

McClung won the NBA Dunk Contest in 2025 for the third straight year as a two-way player known for stealing the spotlight during All-Star Weekend—and by the looks of it, Dybantsa could be next in line after his flashy performance Thursday night.

The 6'9" small forward out of Utah Prep received offers from top programs including Alabama, Kansas and North Carolina before ultimately committing to BYU.
